Graham & Dunn Honors Chief Sealth High School Senior with Scholarship

Graham & Dunn is pleased to celebrate Coung "Jimmy" Ngo as the recipient of the 2008 Graham & Dunn Memorial Scholarship award . Each year Graham & Dunn awards the scholarship to a Seattle high school student who exemplifies leadership, scholastic aptitude and commitment to the community, and who has demonstrated the ability to overcome adversity.Jimmy’s family immigrated to the U.S. from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam three years ago. Speaking little to no English upon arrival in Seattle, Jimmy took on part-time employment (working 20 - 30 hours a week) to help his family make ends meet. He started his first year of High School by taking an English Second Language course. By his sophomore year of school he was in regular language art classes and was excelling. Now, during his senior year, Jimmy is enrolled in Advanced Placement Language Arts and is enrolled in English 101 at South Seattle Community College. Despite all of the inherent cultural and language barriers, Jimmy has worked extremely hard and has persevered in school and with his new language. Despite Jimmy's all-encompassing academic schedule, he has continued to work up to 30 hours a week, has been active in volunteer community service programs, has lettered in varsity tennis, and has maintained an impressive 3.87 grade point average. Jimmy hopes to attend the University of Washington or Washington State University.
The Graham & Dunn Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 to honor deceased members of the firm by enhancing the opportunity for others to realize their full scholastic and professional potential.
